Thinking about what might be considered ‘planet Earth’s most pollution-sensitive species’ sparked the thoughts that drove me to write this article and compile the following list.
As always, each peer-reviewed scientific reference can be found at the bottom of this article for your knowledge.
Thanks for reading!
Upon Earth, amidst numerous conflicts and wars, another battle is often overlooked: the fight against extinction caused by pollution.
Within highly polluted areas, pollution-sensitive species, often among prey species, are more vulnerable to health risks.
The prioritization of these pollution-sensitive species should be considered.
In numerous ways, prioritizing the protection of weaker species is strategic, as these species often serve as ‘keystone species’ and ‘indicator species’ to their environments — often serving as prey for predators, and helping to balance wildlife food webs and populations.
Therefore, pollution-sensitive species’ potential for large-scale effects cannot be underestimated.
If too many populations of pollution-sensitive species, spanning various families, were to vanish, it would trigger significant ‘domino effects’ throughout…
