The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) is more than just a law enforcement agency; it’s a community where family ties run deep.
This unique bond is proven by families like the Morses and the Ibbotsons, whose stories highlight the multigenerational dedication to the RCMP and the citizens of Canada.
The Morse Family
Donna Morse (born Burns) was among the first female officers in the RCMP, joining Troop 17 in 1974, the year female police officers were first legally allowed to join the RCMP.
At her first posting in Port Alberni, British Columbia, she met Ron Morse. Their relationship quickly blossomed into marriage, marking the first-ever marriage union between RCMP officers.
“I wasn’t looking for a husband,” she laughs. “I was looking for a career.”

Despite initial concerns from their superiors, Donna and Ron’s commitment to their duties and love for each other paved the way for the acceptance of future Canadian Mountie couples.
