Ever wonder why Canadian Mounties wear bright red uniforms?

Or what that small blue line symbol on their police gear could mean?

The RCMP’s “Red Serge” and the “Thin Blue Line” are two symbols that carry a lot of meaning in Canada.

Both of these symbols honor the pain and sacrifices made by police officers to keep civil societies safe.

The Red Serge

The RCMP’s Red Serge is that classic, bright red uniform you’ve probably seen Mounties (more formally: the Royal Canadian Mounted Police) wearing in parades or ceremonies.

It’s pretty striking with its red jacket, dark blue pants with a yellow stripe, brown boots, and a wide-brimmed hat.

This uniform has been around for ages and is a big part of Canadian identity.

When people see it, they immediately think of the Mounties and their role in Canadian history.

The Thin Blue Line

On the other hand, the Thin Blue Line is a symbol used to represent police officers in general.

It’s a simple blue line against a black background, and it signifies the role of law enforcement in keeping society safe.
